oyster drum pricing? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

So how hard is it to find a mid 60s black oyster 16 inch floor tom? Is there any deals out there around 300 400 range? Even fixer uppers? I see them here and there for some pretty high prices but it's always the same ones, so they're obviously not selling too fast. What is the reasonable range for these?

Logic would have it that there should be many of these out there, right? Since Ludwig was making a ton of these during the mid 60s? People just hold onto them I guess...

I have a hunch that the glut of "Ringo" drum sets in the sixties made for a lot of used "Ringo" drum sets. My hunch further speculates that a lot of buyers of the used "Ringo" drums did not want to have drums that looked like so many other drum sets. So, the wrap was removed, replaced, painted over, or wrapped over. A very similar thing happened with many of the WMP drum sets from the previous era that were on the used market.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

They aren't that hard to find but almost always bring a premium price. They aren't particularly rare (16's) but there seems to be a constant demand for them which is what pushes the price up. 14" floors are tougher to find and go for even more...and Jazz Festivals...well good luck should you ever decide to hunt for one of those at a "reasonable" price.

The ones that constantly sit on ebay are priced too high (the sellers apparently hope somebody might pay that if they get desperate enough or don't care about money). Most sellers aren't totally oblivious to the "Ringo factor" though so unless you get lucky you should figure you're going to have to spend more $ for a Oyster Black 16 than a blue sparkle one.
