Oyster Pink Slingys finished Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I bought this Slingerland Modern Jazz kit a couple of months back and have been working away on it since. It is in great shape and the chrome is near perfect. As you can imagine some of the pink has faded away but the wrap is in great shape. Date stamps are July 64 in the toms and Aug 64 in the BD. The snare has a SN of 44411 and the BD is 44155 so pretty close. No badges on the toms. It came with the hi hat stand and snare stand although at some point the top part of the snare stand has been swapped with an Ajax.

Written in pencil inside the BD is what appears to be an ownership history. It was sold new by the Bristol Piano Company in Dunedin in New Zealand's deep south. The shop is still there and first opened in the late 1800s. The kit has spent its whole life in Dunedin until now.

I'll get some better photos when the sun isn't so brightflowers2

Really beautiful kit! Cool that you have the ownership history too :)

Absolutely beautiful, and this wrap is underappreciated.

I think these mid-60s Slingerland kits are among the best looking drums ever made. I especially like the hoop inlay in the wrap color, something that Slingerland eventually did away with, and the quite modern looking bass drum rods, which to my eye were always better looking than the later ones. Just a great looking kit, and especially vintage-looking with a rail consolette.

Wow!!!! Those look fantastic!!!!!!!! I was looking forward to the outcome of these drums.

Do yourself a favor and hide the BD inlay staples under a BD claw so they don't get snagged on anything, unless of course, you're trying to prevent any extra rashing on the hoops by keeping them where the rashes happen the most.

Beautiful! Isn't it amazing that "real men" wouldn't be caught dead with this finish in the 60's and now it's one of the most collectible and beautiful wraps around! Kudos on bringing them back to life and sharing them with us!

Exactly correct idrum4fun. Couldn't bear to own it then and would love to have it now.

I had a Rogers set last year in that finish that I bought when it showed up here on this site for sale. It was actually a Dayton set, so a little differing pattern, but the same idea. The wrap was toast at the seams on the bass and mounted tom. When I got it, I thought I'd just re-wrap it because it was a really nice set nothwithstanding the seams. When I got it, I found it was too beautiful to consider taking the wrap off. So I sold it to someone who wanted it as it was.

Like your Slingerland kit, it was beautiful. The Slingerland and Ludwig versions held up much better and I think that was due to the mahogany outer layer that really bonds the wrap to the shell.

You have a rare and first rate vintage setup there and have done a really nice job preserving for a long time to come.
