Pair Of Lyon & Healy Drums Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Loading...

I've got an opportunity to pick up this matched pair of Lyon & Healy drums but don't know much about them although I must admit that I'm a sucker for birds-eye maple. The snare drum measures 16 x 5 and the bass drum is 26.5 x 14. The snare's got goatskin heads while the bass drum's got torn calfskins. Any "words of wisdom" regarding these would be appreciated. I'm just wondering whether they'd be worth buying as display items and/or collectibles.

As usual, thanks in advance for your time and your help!

I'd play them, take any original heads off and put them up in a climate controlled closet. There are companies making new reproduction heads. Put those on them and play away.

I've had two, and still have one L@H snare drum.....foolishly sold my first one.

Seems they are much more beautiful than they are valuable.

Neither cost me over $125...... they are much prettier than that.

I still have the one on the left..... it lives in my dining room... great display piece for me, anyway............:)

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the matched set you are showing.

I'm a sucker for the birds-eye maple as well !!

Really old post I see. But I just bought a snare to restore that is exactly like OldSchool's drum!

OldSchool or Kevins- do you know an approximate age on the drums you have pictured?

Thanks

The best I've been able to find out is the New Decade on the left is around 1918 and the other....model unknown to me, is around 1902.

That's cool. Mine has the metal/wood hoops like the one OldSchool posted. I see that both of your drums have a 'quilted' maple look to it. Mine has a heavy flame to it instead of the quilt.

So made somewhere between 1900 and 1920? I think that makes it the oldest drum I've ever owned!
