Hey all -

Got an inquiry today for a Pearl emerald green kit 4 piece. Don't know a thing about them - but my impression is they ain't anything special. Thoughts on kit quality & value (if any) I'd be much obliged to hear about. The only thing so far interesting me is a possible 6.5 Supra -

p.s. & why is't there not on ebay that much? Because there terrible tubs?

Ciao for now - Hobbs

I used to play Fiber Glass Pearls...always happy with 'em. Loud drums, good quality. Not sure what they are worth! That Supra is however in high demand..

These drums/shells, IMO, are great but underappeiciated

Great because:

1) the shells are just about indestructable. What I mean by that is under normal use, they're not going to ever end up being out-of-round or otherwise affected by weather, humidity, etc., and with no seam you just won't find cracks like you did with vistalite type of shells.

2) depending upon what heads you use, you can tune them to just about get any sound you want to get out of them.

Underappreciated because value-wise they don't bring big money (unless you have odd sizes). My guess what you have is a standard 22/16/13/12 setup. About the best you can get (retail) out of a set like this is around $400 (not including the snare in this) and even if they're in great shape I usually won't pay more than $200 for them (to repair & flip), less of course if they need rewrapped.

I'm always interested in picking up these sets and shells... so what's the price?

Hey there Bill -

I got your PM. I have yet to speak to seller. Was contacted & that's where it stands right now. As always, I will post whether I even buy the lot as CL can be iffy at best.

Quite a few artists played on Pearl fiberglass drums during the 70's. Steve Gadd made so many of his classic recordings using a kit made up of Pearl fiberglass toms, Gretsch bass drum and a Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum. With Remo Coated Ambassador heads, those drums really sing!

My first pro grade Pearl set was Fiberglass earlier era, around '76 or so. They are loud, sound great, tune easily, and nowadays they're not very expensive. If the price is right I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.
