Pearl Drum Set Covered In White Leather Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Nice to see that you are involved in another project! I dug around the net out of curiosity and found this colour chart from a 70s Maxwin/Pearl catalogue on the Pearl forum. They are calling the finish "naugahyde". From what I gather, more kits in this finish were sold under the Maxwin name, making your Pearl a bit rarer. Hope this helps. Good luck on your sale!

Oh yeah, and I read that Dean Sabatino of Dead Milkmen plays a kit like this.

1964 Ludwig Champagne Super Classic
1970 Ludwig Blue Oyster Super Classic
1977 Rogers Big R Londoner 5 ebony
1972/1978 Rogers Powertone/Big R mix ebony
60's Ludwig Supersensitive
Pearl B4514 COB snare ( the SC snare)
Pearl Firecracker
PJL WMP maple snare
Odds & Sods

Sabians, Paistes, Zildjians, Zyns, UFIPs, MIJs etc
Item may be subject to change!

I agree. Clean it up, play it for a bit and then sell it.I wonder what product is good for cleaning, Armor All? ;)-Tim

I hope the leather is "fine Corinthian"..

So how many kits are you up to now? :)

The way I see it ... you're young and trying to find your "sound". You're also being frugal with your money by purchasing kits that need a little work and are sold at a low cost. There are a lot of other things you could be spending your money on and not get as much personal gratification or return on investment. You literally bought a entire drum shell pack for the same amount of money as two Xbox or Playstation games. When you decide to sell, you're possibly going to triple your investment. You'd be lucky to get $80 trade in for the used video games.

I absolutely agree. There are a lot of places you could spend $140 and then six months from now have no idea what happened to the money. Flipping a kit and getting to enjoy it in the meantime is a great way to develop some financial savvy, negotiating skills, marketing skills, restoration skills, all the while enjoying some cool drums. I applaud you young lady. As said before, very well done indeed.

Wow, what a very unique and interesting set of Pearls you've got there. I've been playing a Pearl fiberglass set from 1972 that I got in 1975 that has all the similar gear like your set-up. Mine's WMP, but never saw a wrap like that before. Ultra cool and the condition looks primo...Good job and I hope you make a killing on your re-sale. The guys here have great advice on getting rusty snare drums up to snuff-make sure you search on the forum...you'll have it looking good in no time. Cool1

To answer the question, I "have" three sets: my Ludwig downbeat set, my Ludwig Vistalite set and my Premier set. Those are the three I'm allowed to keep. I have this set and a Ludwig Rockers set I have to sell, but my parents haven't pushed it to hard. My music room is full because I real want to keep a lot if I, bu I really know I can't. Between those three sets, my marching snare, (by I'm playing tenors in the HIGH SCHOOLmarching band, even thought I'm only in the 8th grade), bells, piano, and snare rack, it's really full. I have band camps to pay for this summer and I'd like to get a scooter to get back and forth from band practice, sports practice and stuff. So, selling drums helps, plus I get to play them! But this last set took ALL my money, so I hope one of them sells soon! I found a cool Slingerland set for $80 at a thrift shop but I'm broke!

Thanks for all the info and advice. You all are great!

I owned/flipped a Maxwin version of this set. With Aquarian Studio-X on top and Ambassador coated on the bottom-EXCELLENT sound.

Welcome to the problem we all face, Julia... too many drums, not enough space, yet another great deal popping up at a price too good to pass up. A Slingerland set for $80? Really?? First the BOP Downbeat and now this. How the heck are you stumbling upon these great finds?? Next, I bet you'll find a great scooter for $25.

... or she'll post about finding a pink-ish sparkle wrap snare with a badge that says Dyna-something and a weird gray metal thing holding the snare wires for $50 at a garage sale.

She's been bitten by the bug and she's got a good eye too.
