I am just asking :

did pearl make a smaller rack tom sorta like a 8 inch or 9 . Not a concert tom

Toms that had both bottom and top heads on it

I know they made a 10 inch of the fact i have one reg size But not a deep shell

I have a 1970s old pearl drum set

Just asking

Thanks

Not in any of their 70s "American Market" catalogs anyway.

In fact, at least in the American Market only the concert toms were smaller than 12", so your double-headed 10" tom could be:

1) A product of their Japanese market (of which I don't know much about),

2) Something "custom made" from a concert tom, or

3) A later version, as they did start offering them in the 80s. In fact, in the 80s they offered a small double-headed tom that used the "snare" lugs on it.

What's the shell composition of your 10"? That would help tell.

Hey, even though I take pride in my knowlegde of the 70s Pearl, if I'm wrong that's fine... I look at it as a "learning" opportunity, 'cause different sizes and other oddities do turn up from time to time...

Well, I'm going to have to correct myself already.

The following link from VDG:

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/my_collection/literature/pearl/1967-pearl-catalog-2.jpg

clearly shows 8"x8" and 8"x10" toms, double-headed. From the hardware shown as well as the distinct badges, these drums are out of the late 70s (heading on VDG just says "70s"), but not in the 1978 catalog.

BTW -- also from VDG, the double-headed toms with the "snare" lugs showed up as early as 1980 (with newer badge design).

Sorry if I caused any confusion or arguments....
