They made 3 levels. This was the lowest. For sound, yes. For price...no. The 1000's are the best. Some of the nicest drums I've ever heard...yet too bulky.

Doesn't sound like that great a deal considering that I bought a Radial Pro 501 5-pc kit in March 2009 which, in addition to having the snare, also included the bass pedal, snare stand, hi-hat stand, 2 boom-arm cymbal stands and a drum throne - for $450. After adding 2 more toms, I removed the PVC wraps and stained/clear-coated the shells. I've since sold that kit and am now playing a 1994 RBS-1 kit (forerunner of the RP1000 kits) that I refinished last year.

There is no doubt that the sound from these kits is fantastic (better than the Ludwig and Pearl kits that I have used in the past). However, if you are really interested in a Radial Pro kit I would suggest that you try and find an RP750 kit if you can't find an RP1000 or RBS-1 kit at a decent price. Granted, they will be more expensive but they are also better kits. As a bit of info, the RP500 and 750 kits were made in the U.S.A., while the RP 501 and 751 kits were made in Taiwan.

I'll add a few pics of my old and current kit for reference purposes once I resize them.

Always coveted those drums. Briefly had a 1000 snare. Honestly, was too ignorant and impatient to figure out exactly how to set it up properly. The rod inserts just never cooperated and I got SO frustrated that I sold it. I did not like the wonkiness of the whole thing. It was really finicky and I never felt confident in my abilities to nail it quickly ... so out it went. Those rod receivers would spin and slip out when you would change heads. It took way too much time to reseat everything 'just so' and that turned me off to them. I liked the 500 and 700 setup better BECAUSE of the difference in the radial system. GREAT sound, those. I feel really stupid (even more so) that I never considered pulling the wrap and going natural. Live and learn.

Those are the original tom arms, although the memory locks should be at the bottom where they belong and the toms are mounted for a left-handed drummer. Unfortunately, everything gets turned around in such cases and the logos are now at the back rather than the front, which IMO decreases the appearance of the kit. See post #3 for the pics I added to it this morning.

My RBS-1 kit was originally transparent black with a lemon oil finish. However, many of the first generation kits had colour problems - some of my pieces had "faded" to an ugly brown colour. The colour you see in post #3 is called Vermont Maple, with a satin clear-coat finish.

Would be happy to post additional pics of both or either kits if anyone is interested in some before and after shots of my refinishing projects.

For those interested in Radial Pro kits, go to The Peavey Radial Bridge Drums - Owners Club at http://peaveydrums.moonfruit.com. There is also a link to their Facebook page on that site.
