From Mr.Lud

No it has nothing else inside with no extra holes. I don't know if I can sell it...I mean that is a decent amount of money but the drum is beautiful. I also personally think it looks better than the early 20s ones I've seen and the later 30s ones. Course that is probably me now figuring out what I have....

See what I mean abut parting with one ? Don`t clean it if you have no experience with fragile drums.

If you must,...Nothing more than a slightly moistened gun oil rag. Even if you disassemble it.

Well I did the red drums many moons ago but this one seems to be just a little more valuable..not sentimentally though.

I think I will just wipe it down, get new heads and then maybe store it. I mean should I even play the thing? Is it really that rare and special? It looks special it but I honestly don't know enough to make a good call.

It is that rare and is that special. Most modernize theirs and play them, but most are not undamaged and complete. Purdie plays his and his is in great shape too. He took out the light bulb with some resistance and changed the heads too. Think he still playing it.

Would it be possible to have the hoops/lugs refinished? How badly would it effect the value?

I would love to restore but I have a feeling this is probably better left alone.

That drum is in amazing condition. Does not need replating of hardware at all. All you'd need to do is give it a light cleaning, new heads/wires and enjoy playing it for years to come.

for cleanning use 3 in1 oil and very soft clean cotton towels.

Ludwig wont re-plate in Deluxe because that was 80 or 90 years ago and I doubt they have any left.

If you re-plate the hoops/trim, you have a $800 drum shell and players hoops/trim. Bad idea.

Don`t touch it, just a little oil on a rag to wipe it down. That 3in1 oil in the little squeeze can from the store. (Gun oil)

The second you alter it, not re-head and wire, but if you alter originality, kiss the big money bye bye.

Collectors want that drum the way it left the factory. Nothing else will do. You don`t need to do anything, it`s all there, just the way guys like Curotto like it.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
