Hi! I am new to the vintage drum forum, I've been playing for years and have had multiple different setups throughout the years, and have just now went old school because I think I got a good deal on a set, but I don't know. My friend bought these a month ago off of the second owner, and as soon as I saw them, I knew I had to have them - So I traded a Tama Starclassic birch performer shell pack for these and another Ludwig Classic 26 bass,13/14 tom, 16/20 floor tom grouping that I will pic up next week, will post pics of that set when I get them - total investment is $1300 for both Ludwig kits, tell me if I got screwed.

Here's what I know about the first kit - the guy bought them in 1977 from his buddy and supposedly played them every weekend for the past 30+ years - all serial numbers are consecutive on the double headed toms, and all the serial numbers are consecutive on the concert toms - it consists of a total of 9 pieces - sizes are = 6/8/10/12/13/14/16/18 floor tom - finish is what I believe is sky blue pearl - and these are in immaculate condition - the only bad thing i can see is that he painted 4 of the toms on the inside black - please take a look at the pics provided and tell me what you think the value is on this.

Two full kits for $1300.! Dude you did GREAT! The one with the 26" bass and 20" floor tom sounds like a killer kit too. You scored big time if you're getting all those vintage drums for $1300.

If you don't have room for both kits at your house, I'll be glad to store the Sky Blue Pearls for you... no charge! lol

Concert toms, double headed with clippies and l-arms, all ran single headed for over 30 years, painted inners

3 ply, looks like a pretty good wrap and hardware, should clean up well

Weighing it out ... you did ok.

Be very aware of shell round when you go to clean them up. That might haunt you. it's a shame about the clippies. That's how the OctaPlus was built.

I recently stripped black paint from the interior of a BD shell. It was a LOT of work. I don't have picture's of the 'after' yet, but here is the before. Were yours originally white or natural? Faced with this again, I would probably paint it white rather than strip off the black.

the fact that your double headed toms have the clip mounts in addition to the classic mounts, makes me wonder if they were originally concert toms and were converted to double headed at some point.

You got a mighty good deal there. Enjoy them.

From what I can make out from the pics, it looks like the 6" and 8" concert toms had that Granitone granite grey speckle paint inside. I have some like that. Mine have re-rings at the top and bottom. I can't figure out the two mounts on the tom unless he used it on both type stands. the 9mm post mounts fit the holes of the clip mounts without any drilling and I changed my 10" to that so I can mount it with my 12" tom.

Try some of that paint remover Purdieshuffle used on his Rogers set. He said it removed the paint easily. I think those concert toms are maple. Mine are.

I think you did ok on them. when you get them all cleaned up they should look really nice. I love that wrap. Still can't figure out why people paint there drums and mess them up. That grey interior matched the wrap much better than the black. DOH

Me to i think he ordered it that way with clips and mounts if i had a stand i could mount all the toms 3 on left and 3 on the right all the toms have double rings.what heads will sound good on these?
