Pictures of the Kents Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Well I ended up bringing these home, not sure why. The floor tom is not a Kent drum, it is a Zim-Gar MIJ but in very good shape. The biggest problem is the incorrect tom mount someone screwed to the top of the bass drum right over the badge. I will need to find the origional mount. And the spurs are missing. The shells are the maple ones with some messy glue but not bad. I think over all they will clean up pretty good. The cymbals are something I would like to hear more about, they seem very cheep but look to be old onses at least. And it came with an old kick pedal that I have never seen. Take a look at the pics, are they worth messing with?

Thank you!

Well.....if you didnt pay too much (hopefully no more than $100) then it was probably worth it. That mount on the BD is a downer tho. Typical MIJ mount.

Too bad the floor tom wasnt a Kent as well. Then you would have something to work with.

Get that mount off, plug the holes and patch em with 3 small circles of wrap, and off you go!

Good luck!

Ya the mount will go for sure. Good news is I can use the MIJ on another kit that has an extreamly rusty mount bar. I dont see any holes from where the origional tom mount was, any guess to how it was done?

I think i can help you..As you know the mounted tom mount is wrong.Kent did two type's of mounts one would clamp onto the bass drum hoop and the other mount would be a piece of tube that would fit into the round mount on the drum you have i can't tell by the photo were is the bass leg mounts on the drum are they closer to the side missing the head or closer to the side with the head? If they are closer to the side with-out the head then your drum did not have a tom mount it was a hoop mount on the bass drum. then that would make the round mount you have on the bass drum now it was for a cymbal straight tube...Mikey

That is a nice score. With some edge work, heads and clean-up,those are keepers.Even the floor tom-if you decide to sell it you should get a good price, then either build a replacement drum or wait for a dark blue sparkle drum on 3bay.And that pedal I believe is in the Kent pages on VDG.

Mikey, by looking at pictures of Kent drum sets I think the tom had the mount that would clip on to the bass hoop. I will need to find the tom mount and also one rod and claw, spurs for the bass drum. The wrap on the drums is good shape but ugly. Since the floor tom is a different color and make, I am thinking about re-wrap but I dont want to sink too much money in this either, wrap material can be expensive and it will still be a missed match kit.

If you think you might have the parts needed please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff C

Oh thanks! I needed to hear that. I would trade that floor tom for the correct one. The zyn-gar I have is really good shape. The Kents will clean up nice. Everything I learned about Kent drums in the last few days is true, crooked lugs and very poor edges. I will fix the edges with a round over like Purdie-Shuffle suggested in the other thread. Did you say you might have a tom mount? I need the one that clips on the bass drum hoop, I think.

Jeff - check your pm's bud. Link included on how to execute the vintage 30 degree round-over. The new edges will make those drums sound fat and warm. Real good head/shell contact with the vintage edges. If you want more attack/projection from the drums, go for dbl. 45's. But, for those old Kents, the 30 degree round over will make them sound 'old-school' great.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
