Yes, Mikey is right....your bass drum used a hoop mount for the mounted tom. Kent used them for a time in the 50s.

From time to time, you see Kent floor toms on EBAY. I'd grab the first one I saw and cover it in blue sparkle.....and you might even be able to use the old wrap from the Zim Gar and patch where needed.....many guys have done that and it looked ok, and costs nothing.

Good luck!

Here is a picture of the 13" tom as requested. Bigger problem, look at how the snare shell has been dished out where the snare wires go thru. It is about a 1/4" arch cut out. Plus the shell rocks ( dosent sit flat) on the table saw top. Do I try and grind the shell down to a true flat plane and loose 1/4" out of the hiegth? If so, it will get into the wrap, will that be bad?

Thank you,

Jeff C

LOL - Jeff, it's just a wide/deep bed is all. It's a good thing! It means you can use a wider set of snares on that drum! 40 strand snares if you want.

Don't worry about the rocking. It's the beds that are making it rock. Check that the bearing edges are clean, smooth and get her ready to play! Shop around for some good Puresound -wide- snare wires! I think you'll be surprised when you crank it up and play it. Coated head on top, Evans Hazy 300 on the bottom and Rock & Roll baby.

John

PS - Really crank it up when you tune it! Those snares only sound good when you either crank the hell out of em, or tune them down low. Not so hot in the middle ranges.

Too many great drums to list here!

Well it wont sit flat on either side. The edges are slightly round, do you think I should still cut a 30 degree angle on the inside with the round prfile on the outside like the you-tube video?

These shells are so thin,I'd just do a round-over on both sides. The consolette that's on the bass drum now-is it unuseable?I mean,it's already drilled out-I know it's incorrect, but it should perform it's function-right?You may want to true up the snare by turning it around on a sandpaper-covered square of plywood, then do the edges. They did have huge beds, maybe even for single(seperate)snares.

Well I have not actually tried to put the tom on the mount but assume it will work the way it is. I would prefer to get it back to origional so I would have to fill the holes and find the hoop style tom mount.

Gee I feel kinda stupid with getting worried about the "snare bed" but I have not noticed that on other drums. Good thing for this forum and all of your help, I was thinking about scribing a line around the edge and grinding it down on my edge sander!

Thank you,

Jeff C

Note width and depth of the bed in the example. Look familiar?
