Pink Oyster Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Looking for the Kit of my youth!!! Pink Oyster Pearl. Remember it as being a Leedy kit but it may have been Slingerland or Ludwig. See attached picture from 1971 (my parent's basement in San Francisco). Will take any part of this kit and build from there...

It's all about how it feels...

Cool photo and kit! I'm trying to do a POP ludwig kit . ( I need a floor tom) These seem to be very rare and/or hoarded . Slingerland and Rogers had similar wraps. Good luck.

cruncher,

Those sure look like Slingerland Sound King lugs on the toms...and no badges, which is consistent with Slingerland. Hard to tell, but those t-rods kinda look like Slingerland torpedoes as well. Even harder to tell, but the hoops kinda look like stick savers.

Real nice kit one way or the other! Cool1 I wish you the best of luck in finding them. I've been watching the Slingerland listings on eBay like a hawk for a few months and I haven't seen any pink oysters. CryBaby

Just type what you're looking for into Google, you might get lucky. That's how I found a matching snare (almost...it's a little more yellowed) of the same period for my Slingerland kit. Unfortunately, somebody didn't love it and parts were broken/missing/oxidized/rusted and it's a little out of round CryBaby...I'm praying an Aquarian American Vintage will fit because Remo's won't.

The more I look at your pic, the more I'm sure that you had a MIJ (Made in Japan) set. The lugs are too small for Slingerland (or Ludwig), and the FT leg mounts are definitely not Slingerland. Also, the wrap does not look like Slingerland's Oyster Pink Pearl, there's not enough dark in it. It's more like a variation on Red Ripple (which Slingerland did offer, but the pattern was a little different). The snare strainer and consolette part of the rail also look to be MIJ, as do the cymbal stands and the club date style aluminum BD spurs.

Here's a Sling OPP set for comparison:

mlvibes makes great points. I forgot to mention earlier that the FT leg bracket that I can see is not Slingerland. It resembles Ludwig possibly. I did not notice the BD spurs, but Slingerlands had a steeper angle. I have seen lots of MIJ kits that used Slingerland-type hardware, so mlvibes may have solved the case.

As far as the wrap, I've never seen a pink oyster myself, but I saw a picture of it on a Leedy snare and bass drum that I'm reminded of by your picture. See http://www.coopersvintagedrums.com/newslinghistory.htm in the section that discusses the period that Slingerland built Leedy drums. The wrap on those drums is definitely pink.

Regardless of what it is and what you may find to replace them, I hope you find and enjoy your fountain of youth. The Band

Me too,Mlvibes iam with you on this one it's a M.I.J. set.If you look at the tom mount-{clip}- its not a S/L wrong shape so are the leg mounts on the toms i see big wing-screws like you would see on sets made by Pearl of the 60's..Mikey
