Please help me sell my 4 piece pre-1965 Slingerland Vintage Drums Last viewed: 35 minutes ago

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the site, but have been drumming for most of my life. For the past 10 years, I've had the pleasure of owning and playing a vintage 4 piece Slingerland kit. I love these drums, but the time has come to sell them. So I've been trying to figure out what they are worth, what a fair price would be to list them for. I know part of that answer comes from exactly what year they were manufactered. Based on the serial number on the badge on the bass drum (81737) and that there are no vent holes on the toms, I believe they were made between 1963 and 1965. Can this be narrowed down further? Any tips on where to sell them and for how much? Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

Thank you,

Matt

Wrong BD spurs also.....

Is that a factory stain job?

" Any tips on where to sell them and for how much"?

If you offer them for sale here, you'll likely sell them for their real value.......$300-$400 if there are no other "surprises" in addition to the obvious ones that were already pointed out to you.

If you list them for sale on eBay, and list all of the features as well as the modifications, you might get $100 higher for the drums. If you list them on your local craigslist with scanty details, you might get as much as $600 from someone who has little knowledge of vintage Slingerland drums. This may seem harsh. But, you wanted real answers.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Badge missing off snare makes me think it is a refin....

BUT....looks like a 14" FT.....at least in the second pic...in 3 pic...looks 16"......

Which is it?

Looks like a complete refinish.Even the black is worn off the used to be black & gold Niles badge, which is severely worn down.I'm not even sure about the badge grommet, which dosen't look aluminum. The badge also looks like it was bent up at one time.

I think the floor tom is 16"

The outer ply looks like an open grain wood,so I'm thinking mahogany.Wrap was stripped and drums refinished.

There should be a date stamp and a large ink stamp M or P inside the shell.

As has been said, the drums are modified from original,so the're worth a lot less than in original condition. No doubt extra holes also.

I'm with Leedy,3-400 if I were in love with them. Some people think that replacing vintage with modern hardware is upgrading the drums, when the opposite is true. They are what's considered a players kit,and any collector value,is now lost. You can't undrill a hole.Sorry, but I'm just being honest.

A set like that you can probably get between 1500.00 and 2000.00 depending on condition place it on Ebay or on Webstore.com see it's outcome.

+1.I don't see how an altered ,non original, refinished, players set, is going to bring even half that much, when complete original ones, don't command those prices.

I'm with Blair on this one.My vote is 1500-2000 not a prayer.

As people have said...Slingerland drums...especially modified ones like this are probably the least valued of the 4 major drum companies from the 60's/70's.

They are worth $300-$400 tops (if they are round and tune up) because of the mods and the refin. If you got $400 you would be doing AMAZINGLY well. Id say more like $300. My advice: keep the kit and play it. It probably sounds incredible and is far more valuable as an instrument than as a money maker in vintage drum land.
