When I am doing a single headed kick, I use the largest Angry Bird!!! It's funny and the birds love it!!!!

Dead dogs like rusty fire hydrants!!!
I had to answer "Bacon"
My 20" Rogers & 20" Slingerland both have a piece of adhesive felt, the stuff you find under trophy bases, stuck to the inside of the batter side head (Coated Emperor) that's maybe 3" X 6" and nothing on the front head.
The 22" Radio King also has the same batter side set up with Fiberskin on the front.
There's an old external muffler on the front head that's just there for show & makes no contact with the head.
Also, I flat out refuse to cut a hole in, or remove and bass drum head, ever.
Bass players love me, sound guys hate me.
As an afterthought, I once read that Gene Krupa tuned his bass drum to a "Low F" and that's where I like to think mine are.
At least, that's where they'd be if I knew what the hell a "Low F" was.
Eye Ball
I just use a single felt strip on the front head. It works great for me!
Far be it from me to judge... But bacon is a smelly and expensive option... Again, I won't judge...
Just make sure you're not a wanker when you weigh in... A few of you. Lot like to invade my threads just to tell me I am no t posting correctly...

Bacon is the only thing on the poll that resembles a felt strip. I usually play all my drums completely open...no muffling!...I like my drums to sound like drums, not cardboard boxes. Depending on the situation, sometimes you need to dampen. That's why they have EQ'd heads now with different degrees of dampening rings...guess modern science needs to engineer a Calf with built in dampening rings!...that would be awesome! Can you imagine a new breed of cattle called Evans or Remo's...you could play them & eat them!...much better than Bacon!...sorta like edible underwear for drums that you can grill, braise, roast or fry!...and at the end of the night, you can play the hell out of them!Laughing H
