Possible to build something around these Leedy lugs? Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Loading...

I picked up a 12x15 inch marching snare which included 8 cool Leedy lugs. I'm not really interested in re-building the snare, but would rather use the lugs on a 5x14 inch wood shell Leedy. So... what's the likelihood that I could piece together the correct shell, strainer, hoops and other necessary parts? Where to begin? Would appreciate any thoughts.

Also, based on the lugs and hoop stamp, how old is this goat?

I think the likelihood of piecing together original parts is low.

There are people who could cut down that marching shell for you.

Based on the lugs I'd say the drum is from the '30s. No stamp inside the shell?

I wouldn't...those lugs are notorious for splitting at either end...not worth the trouble...use modern day hardware, it will serve you much better...IMHO.

Thanks for the replies-

tubelugs:

I like the idea of having the shell cut down, then building a 5x15 snare.

Mike:

That never occurred to me. But I can certainly see your point. The exposed 'tubes' do look weak.
