Actually, they look like the SoundWave series, which were offered in the late 70s. They are likely NOT mahogany inner ply. Great drums, just the same!

How can you tell if they have mahogany inner ply? These look like the Powerhouse that are in the Premier catalog.

I believe this is a Premier Powerhouse because the kick legs are straight and go into the drum. The SoundWave I looked up had curved legs that fold in.

Search the forum, I remember seeing a thread about a kit just like that.

Looks like the 75 version of the Powerhouse kit in Mahogany Duraplast wrap. They were still slipping African Mahogany innards in 75. You can tell by the very dark inner ply. If it's a lighter wood, it's birch/beech. Either way, that's a very nice kit that will sound fabulous. They are very lively with good sustain. They tend to be brighter than other birch/beech kits. You should play it a bit before making your final decision, though. They do not sound like American tri-ply kits of old.

You asked about the price ... it's a great kit for that kinda dough. That's close to the going rate ... I've seen 'em go for more. I would love to walk into that kind of a deal. I love these Premier kits.

I used to have a Premier kit like that only with a gold/silver/tan satin wrap. Fold in/out legs instead though so maybe mine was a little later. Same mounts/lugs/claws though. Two of the drums had mahogany inside. They others were beech or birch. They sounded great. 22/13/14/16 were the sizes. I paid $300 for mine but the finish was pretty beat up in spots. Those look sweet! Scoop em!

Well, I looked at them today, they looked to be mahogany interior and when I took off the head I could see the actual color. They have gotten darker brown, the original color was more mahogany with a tint of red like Ringo's Premier kit.

Anyway, I brought my Shine snare as a partial trade, the guy who was there is an employee, not the owner, but he knows me pretty well. He moaned and groined about my snare not being sellable and only offered me $100 trade in. He said he wanted $650 for the Premier kit with the metal Premier snare or $575 without it. I offered him $500 for the kit without the snare and he was acting like this kit was made of solid gold and gave me an attitude in front of other customers. He basically ran off my business, I'm going to complain to the owner of the shop tomorrow, you don't treat long time customers like they are morons.
