Premier Snare Wires Needed & Snare Info Last viewed: 26 minutes ago

Hello everybody, I have a mint condition, 1988, Projector series 10 lug, Premier snare drum, and this is one good looking white drum, I use TAMA's but I want this snare to be my main snare for now. I just put a Evans St Dry vented snare batter head on it and a Evans Hazy 300 resonant on the bottom. Now all have to do is get the snares for it, the ones that are on it are not all laying flat, and 2 are missing. I like to know more about this drum, like what kind of wood is it, the inside of the drum is also painted white except for the bearing edges, I just love this drum. Does Evans have replacement snares for this drum, or where else can I get them. And please give me all the info, that you can on this 1988, projector snare. I was able to find out that the snare wires might be 654's and I measured 16 and 3 quarters, I think the snare wires were. I gotta get a case for this drum, I got to take care of it. Sorry I see now that I have put this post in the wrong place. So if somebody can move it to the right forum go ahead. the vent number is 004538

Just found out, that the wood is birch, which makes me very happy, I am very tired of metal snare drums, and I mean that.

Just found this over here http://www.jedistar.com/jedistar%20drum%20dating_p.htm

Premier Drum Company was founded in 1922 by London drummer Albert Della Porta and drum builder George Smith. At first, they produced kits for wholesalers, who branded them as their own. Name was changed to Premier Percussion in 1984 following a management buyout.

In October 1987, Premier was merged with Yamaha, which owned the Leicester factory until 1992. During this period, Limited was appended to the company name. In 1992, Tony Doughty, who originally arranged the Yamaha merger, took over the company. In February 1995, Premier was sold to the Verity Group of Companies before yet another buyout by a British consortium a few years later. Today, Premier continues to produce drum kits, marching percussion, and symphonic percussion (including timpani and mallet percussion).

In the 2000s, Premier started making drums in Taiwan under the Artists maple and birch series. The Premier series, maple, birch or hydbrid/ gen-x shells are made in England. Distribution in the USA isn't as large as it was in the past. The hardware is made on the same assembly line in Taiwan as Tama's. [Source: wikipedia]

It's been my experience that finding Premier parts can be a major pain in the *** on this side of the Atlantic. And Premier's bankruptcy/liquidation/restructuring/whatever doesn't exactly help the situation.

Just doing a few quick searches, I haven't had much luck locating a Premier drum set dealer in the U.S. who can provide a replacement snare. But conveniently, the same 654 snares that were used on drum set snares with parallel mechanisms were also used on pipe band (as in bagpipe) snares. I found a few pipe band drum dealers who list the part:

Thanks Sky, I went over to the sites, and I looked at the 654, and I am not sure that it has the 2 screw holes on the bottom end, at least I could not tell from the picture. Just trying to make sure that is the right one before I send the money.

Hi,

I know the wires you need, and on this side of the pond a decent music store called electro music still have some of these wires (to fit the paralell snare mech) and they are premier originals. If these are what you are after, they will post them out to you in the states. www.electromusic.co.uk

bigz out.
