Hey thanks all. And yes Blair, I have been bitten. Even here, you can generally buy an old Premier kit, when available, for the same sort of price as a worn out Pearl Export. The down side is parts are hard to find and after spending hours cleaning etc the drums are still worth very little. I'm thinking that's slowly changing.Well I've just got into the 16" floor tom. There's a date stamp in this one. 1981. Here are the before shots.

Never ceases to amaze me <(to quote a Split Enz song).......
(NZ for New Zealand)......BUT ANYWAY!
32 or so years ago..someone paid big $$$ for this kit...and somehow over time, they get forgotten about, and stuck away in a barn, attic, basement to rot...till we find them...and bring them back to life....
It can be a top of the line L&L Deluxe,Gretsch RB 18" kit... whatever...always the same story...the question is...WHY?...Or..maybe HOW is a better question?

The seller bought them used in 1989 for $2500. I think once the money is spent, and maybe paid off, it's forgotten about.
And yes, 32 years old last Monday. It'll be looking a whole lot better well before its 33rd birthday

Thats a lot of $$$ to forget about...
I think maybe people take up drums ...then find out it is harder then it looks...so they put them in the attic, and then forget about them till 10-20-50 years later....:2Cents:
True. In this case they have been played quite a bit over the years at parties etc by lots of people but never had new heads or any love.
It just goes to show you, it's never too late for a little love.
Some people have a tendency to not want to bother with selling things. That is a different from being a hoarder.

Funny, how I was just thinking this at rehearsal last night. One of those nights when I think I should have put the drums in the attic.
I started playing when I was in 3rd grade. It was so easy when I was young and stupid. Now that I'm older and have heard what great musicians can do on drums I find playing the drums is really HARD. Well, it's not hard to play the same old thing over and over (which I tend to do).
Anyhow, this project is very cool and I look forward to how they will turn out. Lovely looking shells.

a few snares ...
Andrew is that a wrap or wood finish? If its a wood finish wow its tough as nails. Looks great too I like those a lot~! The two tone stripe is cool. Nice project.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

It's a two-tone lacquer finish. There are some scrapes and dents but nothing that has broken through the finish. It's in really good shape. So considering the tough life it's had you'd have to say the finish even tougher.
Hey Shorty, always tough comparing yourself to others. Stick to your strengths etc. and you'll be fine. I've been bluffing my way through this whole drumming thing for years now and I haven't been found out yetCooked Egg I know how you feel though. I played a gig last week (2 sets/2 bands) and the whole drumming thing felt foreign to me. Couldn't get anything going, made loads of mistakes and thought I was generally rubbish. Nobody noticed.
