So I happened upon this ad on CL. It's for a Ludwig & Ludwig 16" floor tom in WMP ( same as the kit I have ) but instead of having the bottom calf skin head, it has lugs on both sides. Assumingly this was one of the first with no calf bottom. Includes the rims, legs, everything. I sent the seller a message asking what he wants and he said " make me an offer " I'm not sure how much just the floor tom would go for. It doesn't have heads, and from what I gather is also missing the tension rods and the clips to hold the single flange rim. That I know does hurt the value since I would need to find some of these parts. Also, correct me if I am wrong. But wasn't this drum originally supposed to be on a cradle? I didn't think legs were added until the later '40s by which time these lugs were no longer being used on kits. Added the posted photos from the ad for reference. Also posting a photo of a kit I found with the 16" on a cradle. Also notice the bottom tone control is gone and the leg mount is there. Seems suspicious.

I'm not sure on the floor tom legs. I would have expected a cradle for this drum as well. The leg mounts could have been added early on. That look good on there. Cradles can be super hard to find and expensive. This way you would have legs with no remorse for adding them yourself.
By the way, have you seen this drum? Link not working here. Ebay item number 142191018162.

OOh that drum needs a little love. Thankfully the 11" & 13" I have still have the original calf bottoms in great shape. The 16" I have I need to re do the calf bottom. And as I happened upon this other one, figured if I could get it at the right price it would be a great addition to the kit.

I never saw a L+L floor tom with bottom tone controls. Perhaps added on?
Floor toms from that era are somewhat rare considering most outfits came without one. Worth a few hundred bucks (at least) I'd think.
I was thinking a couple / few hundred, since it does need a few parts. But from what I see the overall condition of the drum is great considering it's age. I haven't personally seen tone controls top and bottom, but from the catalogs I've gone though they do appear. I can't say how many they made, or even how long. And I likely wouldn't use it, just something that I didn't know if it added value or not. Found a catalog page from 1941 that shows a dual tone control floor tom. Thanks for the replies, I'll let you guys know how it plays out.

My 40's Ludwig Ludwig 16x16" floor tom has two tone controls, as does my 9x13"
$400 drum all day long. Wouldn't surprise me if it got more.
LOL - no worries BEC. So many drums going through all our heads it's hard to keep exact track. The seller doesn't have the tension rods or clips for the drum. So I would need to hunt those down. Not sure how much that would decrease the value, if at all. And is it possible this drum did have both tone controls? And somewhere along the line the leg brackets were added? Thankfully they do look older and not modern, so I'm fine with them being on.
