Price for a Jazzette Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I played with a bass player the other day and he was telling me about a Ludwig kit he has up in his attic,"blue sparkle with a piccolo snare (downbeat?) and a real small bass drum" were his words. I am going to check it out in hopes that this could be a true jazzette. I will have to justify this to my wife if I were to get it as to what it would be worth. So, if it so happens to be a jazzette in good shape, what would it be worth.

Thanks to all!!!

Bad question. To some, more than market. To others, not quite so. Check the going rates at the usual sampling of the Vintage drum dealer sites and the other usual suspects on the web. What you will find is they are just slightly higher than a samecon downbeat kit. That's about the going fair market.

Unfortunately the piccolo snare means it's most likely not a Jazzette, since the downbeat snares were no longer standard with kits by the time the Jazzette came around. From it's first appearance in the Ludwig catalog, the Jazzette came standard with a Supraphonic. Now, it could have been custom ordered, or just matched up with a Downbeat snare, anything's possible, but chances are it's a standard 20-12-14-Downbeat kit, not that there's anything wrong with that! Also, most people that see a 20" bass drum tend to think it's tiny, since they're used much larger modern drums. But I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that's it's a Jazzette kit just in case!

Oh, and to answer your question, I'd consider anything under $1500 to be a great deal for a Jazzette kit in excellent shape.

Thanks,

Bill

It could be a clubdate too......those had "small" bass drums as well....20".....if so, you might be able to get them for a really good deal. Nothing wrong with center mounted lugs and long t-rods :D

lucky,

As stated by our esteemed forum member, mlvibes, the piccolo snare drum would more than likely indicate another configuration -IF it is a matched set we are talking about. It wouldn't have been a Jazzette in all likelihood. But a Downbeat with a matching Downbeat snare is no slouch, either!

There are a few details to look for in order to determine a true Jazzette. If you would like that information, then please feel free to PM me and I would be happy to go over it with you.

I'd say a downbeat with the downbeat snare is worth around as much as a jazzette with no snare. I think your going to hit a deal no matter what.

Hopefully I can catch a look by this weekend, he has more on his calender than me. If it is a 20,12,14 I don't think I would be interested since I have two Slingerland kits in that configuration. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all the advice.

Well, Finally got back in touch with that bass player with the blue sparkle Ludwig kit. Seems he had some health issues and was off the radar for a while. I am going to meet up with him on Thursday or Friday and check it out, wish me luck!
