I just looked closer at the other pictures and that kits looks NEW! If you put new heads on it it could pass for brand new, only better because of 44 years of "mellowing". If makers today are getting $2K for Keller shelled kits why wouldn't you pay $1600 for this beauty. The Supra looks flawless, I would check to see if it's brass. Hard to believe a Ludaloy that is 44 years old without some specks on it.

So what's the verdict? Did you get it?
Downbeat sets are nice to get your hands on especially in this condition and with all of the pieces being present (date stamps included). Just to reaffirm what was previously stated, having smaller lugs on the 12” tom is correct. Last September I saw a Downbeat set in Blue Oyster Pearl sell for $1495 at a local drum shop. It was a similar situation to what you’re in; it had some included hardware and a supra snare, but it also had a few repo parts (spurs and half of the bass drum claws and t-rods were new Ludwig).
Bottom-line: if you can comfortably swing the $1600 (and not risk losing your house because of it, or wife, etc.) then I wouldn’t think twice. I think this is truly “a diamond in the rough.”
Well my birth date is Nov. 14th, so I would jump all on that kit !
peace
Yes, yes, yes, get those beauties !!
It's so easy to spend other peoples money !! LOLJump For Joy
Well, unfortunately I punted. I hope I don't regret it but honestly it wasn't my dream kit. Maybe it will be for whoever gets it. It is a beauty and I know I may never get the opportunity to snag a one owner kit like that in such good shape, but I just couldn't. Would have loved to but I guess no balls, and a wife that wasn't happy.....
BTW, when I talked to them this morning they had already had 10 calls about the kit so I'm sure it won't last the weekend. I'll see if she's there Monday when I take the kids to lessons.
...oh and now I understand the ask for forgiveness -vs- ask for permission...

Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do...
I live by that! (When my wife says I can, anyway) DOH
In any event, they're gone. Someone from out of town bought them. I talked to the owner of the music store. I sort of hope it was someone here since I passed. Maybe I passed along the right into to someone who really wanted those drums. The owner said the add was even flagged for removal and pulled from CL last night, maybe because they don't let stores post?
OK, which one of you guys bought his kit?
"and a wife that wasn't happy"
That says it all with Valentine's Day around the corner. Perhaps just not meant to be. Hang in there, something could be just around the corner.
