Wow! Beautiful gorgeous kit! John hit it on the head as far as pricing goes IMO. WAY too nice for $1900.

I've been following Gretsch prices pretty close for a few years and I've noticed that complete kits like yours are sought after and go from 1500 to 2200 or so. But it is amazing that a 14" floor toms - 6ply - are pricy on their own....and if you could even find a 14" 3ply...well....I think it could fetch easyily $1500 or $2K plus....a 6ply maybe $8-900 depending on how badly someone needed/wanted it.
Having said all the above though, markets change. Appraisals are mostly for insurance purposes and the market will set the price. Your beauties on eBay at the right time could go a lot higher than $2K. Depends who wants them. Vintage Gretsch by themselves for the most part command good $$$.
Here is a snapshot for today. Study these and you should get closer to actual worth for your kit.
I sincerely hope this helps you out. You have a very nice kit and somewhere ... in all this ... and the comments within this thread ... you should get a better handle on your kit. The best of luck and take care.
NUMBER 1:
$3,650.00
This is an incredible find - a circa 1957, factory matched, one-owner Gretsch Progressive Jazz outfit in original Black Diamond Pearl. Ultra-desirable sizes of 14x20, 8x12, 14x14, and matching Max Roach Model 4x14 Progressive Jazz snare drum.
Bass drum and small tom are 3 ply,
floor tom and snare drum are 6 ply.
All shells have original silver interior paint in excellent condition. Toms and snare have original stickchopper hoops, bass drum has the 1950s faucet style T-rods. Bass drum hoops still have their original silver lacquer. Black Diamond Pearl is amazingly vibrant and bold, just absolutely striking in person. Some minor issues - bass drum has two extra holes where the rail mount was moved to the 6 ply location. We've moved it back to the original 3 ply era location. The two holes have been painted black on the inside, which, together with the BDP pattern of the wrap, makes them difficult to see. Typical wrap lift on the floor tom seam, with a tiny chip and two tiny hairline splits, also quite hard to see. Chrome will clean up beautifully, and looks great as-is. Set will include original cymbal L-arm, and Marvel model snare stand. Elvin Jones fans will note that the 20-12-14 is exactly like Elvin's 1950s BDP Gretsch set, right down to the outside-screw FT leg mounts, faucet BD T-rods, stickchopper hoops, and silver painted BD hoops.
NUMBER 2:
$2900
A 1970s Gretsch kit in an extremely rare finish! Emerald Green Pearl was only offered as a catalog color in 1971. 14x20" bass drum, 8x12" rack tom, 14x14" floor tom. Early 1970s 4-point rail consolette. Retractable spurs, hexagonal badges. The kit is in great shape - the wrap is quite clean and the chrome plating shows minimal pitting. NOTE: This is a set which will require Aquarian American Vintage heads due to the slightly oversized shells, which is not uncommon for Gretsch.
NUMBER 3:
$2000
This is mid to late 1960s Gretsch drum set in midnight blue pearl wrap. Sizes are 14x20", 9x13", 16x16". Six-ply Jasper shells. The kit is quite clean and sounds phenomenal. The head fit is better than most. The tension rods on the batter side of the 16 are replacements. The edges on the 13 and 16 are original but have been cleaned up a pinch. The over all quality seems higher than most late 60's Gretsch kits.
NUMBER 4:
$2650
A Gretsch kit from the 1950s in Gold Sparkle pearl wrap. 14x22" bass drum, 9x13" rack tom, 16x16" floor tom. The thing that makes this kit really special is the 3-ply shells. They add an extra element of warmth and punch as compared to the later 6-ply shells. These also have the1950s double flanged hoops, which are lighter than the later ones, and allow the shells to breathe a bit more. The kit is very clean for its age. The snare drum is missing the throw-off lever, and is temporarily replaced with another piece of hardware. This can easily be rectified, or the whole mechanism replaced with a new micro-sensitive.The edges on the snare drum have also been professionally re-cut to mimic the original edges and look fantastic. The interiors on the whole kit are painted silver, with no paper tags and the bearing edges are original and in great shape. Includes the original cymbal L-arm as well.
NUMBER 5:
$2350
Here is a late 1950's Gretsch kit in blue sparkle with a 9x13, 16x16, 14x22 with a matching 5.5x14 snare drum. All drums have silver interiors and late 50s hardware. The floor tom is a 3ply and all the other shells are 6 ply. No paper tags on any of the drums. The floor tom is a sparkle and the 13/22/snare are glass glitter. Its is likely that the floor tom didn't come with this kit and was later added on. The brackets on the floor tom have some replacement mounting screws/bolts. Modern heads fit with a bit of snugness on the 13 and 16 and are tight on the 22. Aquarian American Vintage solves the bass drum tightness quite nicely. The original rail consolette is missing.
Thanks for the good feedback and research! I've set the price at $2,500 based on what I've read here. I've had a few inquiries so far (not bad for the first 24 hours). I'll stay patient and wait for the right buyer.
FYI. I also have the original heads from this kit (hard to believe) but it came with the old Gretsch logo heads still on them. I also have the original bass drum pedal (leather strap and original beater).

OUTSTANDING, big guy. Great news. Keep us in the loop.
SOLD for $2,300 to a fellow drum-addict in Denver. Not bad for 3 days of advertising. Thanks for all of the help, guys! You mad that sale happen much more smoothly.
Nice nice. You did good. You got a decent sum of money for the kit and someone got a nice deal that they will feel good about for quite a while. Win - Win. I am so very glad that we could assist you with this.
P.S. "I'd start them at $2400./$2500. And bottom out at, $2200" ... nice call, John.
