Proposal For Rule Change In For Sale Forum Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Opinions invited, please...

I think we need to establish some criteria for posting items in the For Sale section/forum.

Using the VDF For Sale forum should be a 'contributing members only' situation.

Maybe establish a '5 post minimum' requirement to keep the spammers and opportunists from cluttering the board. At least the members will have a chance to get to know the person a little.

Another pet peeve of mine has to do with people re-posting CL ads from complete strangers to 'our' For Sale section. CL leads should be posted to the General or Vintage Drum forums. CL ads are fine, I just don't like having my for sale items bumped (speaking as an active, contributing member of VDF,) by re-posted CL ads. Not fair to the members here who are trying to eek out a meager supplemental income by selling/trading gear to fellow VDF members. I don't mind competing against other VDF members for business, but it becomes Mission Impossible when we have to compete against reposted CL ads. Just makes sense to look out for our own guys first. -Before- doing favors for complete strangers that they didn't even ask for in the first place.

What do you think? I'd like to see a 5 post minimum rule for the For Sale section and I'd like to see CL ads kept out of the 4 sale area and posted either in; General, or Vintage Drums, not competing with VDF member ads. Cut 'our own guys' a break!

Hear Hear! I will second that motion for some positive change in this matter. I have nothing against CL either, I frequently use it myself. But I can do my own research, and I fully understand the newbie mentality that is just gushing to share what they think is valuable information, but not here, really, enough is enough. And while we are on the subject.....I propose a separate sandbox area for all matters related to anything Ebay. Many of us have had bad experiences with both Ebay and Paypal and have decided to limit or discontinue both. I no longer regard Ebay as the final arbiter on the current relative value of anything, however, I recognize other members decision to feel differently. I'm just saying give them a space of their own.

Respectfully,

Glen

I am with you as far as the cl ads and ebay ads as well unless it pertains to a product already for sale in the vdf for sale section having said that I also think it would be a good idea that if you want to list in the forsale you are a contributing member of which I am not but i should be and will be .....

I agree also. The 5 post limit before being allowed to post in the for sale section is a very good idea. I have learned a lot here in the short time I've been here. And have made some great friends in the process. All of my new gear is from VDF members. Bought, trade or sold. It's a great way to support the forum and it's members. :)

A seperate section for ebay and CL is a good idea too and something a lot of other forums use. Everything in it's place.

Glenn.

Mike - I didn't mean "money contributing" (although everybody who uses the site regularly -should be- supporting it!) what I meant by 'contributing member' is guys like us, that post regularly and contribute to the information pool and ongoing dialog. Yes, everyone should contribute to maintaining the site if you are able to, but what I meant was - us! = Actively contributing members of VDF.

The CL ads bumping member for sale ads is the one that really gets me by the ya-ya's. My stuff, (that I sell to help put food on the table,) is always getting bumped by some carnival barker hawking some strangers gear from CL. How do you compete with that? I sometimes wonder if the regular posters of outside CL ads aren't just fishing for commissions. One guy works real hard at it. Bumps his CL ads two times a day, even sounds worried that no one is taking advantage of the great deal. In the meantime, the ads of his VDF brothers are getting bumped in favor of the CL lead. The guy works harder for total strangers from CL, than he does for his own VDF drum brothers that are only trying to get by. WTF is up with that?

I think a 5 post rule before you can sell is a good idea. So is putting up a note in the for sale section that tells people not to post CL ads in the VDF for sale section. General and Vintage drums is fine for that. Maybe just something that says : Selling your own stuff is ok - selling somebody else's is not.

Just blowing off a little frustration...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Takes five minutes to make five posts.

I like my items staying on the first page of the For Sale section when possible and it is a hassle when non-member CL ads go in there 3 or 4 or more a day.

We could do our own self-policing of the section if Admin approves by commenting on the CL ads if they get posted in the For Sale.

Otherwise, Admin would have to take on the burden, and they don't get paid not one copper penny to do the job they are already doing.

Maybe a sticky from Admin, like John said, and we as members take up the slack from there?

We would have to be courteous and understanding with the process, so I'm going ahead and disqualifying myself from the git-go.

Hmmmm, gotta go bump up my cymbal ad, geez....

Kevin to the rescue!

Sounds like a most practical and reasonable approach my friend. I second the motion! I will begin asking the For Sale section CL posters to please post in General or Vintage Drums. Maybe Tommy can help out by 'cleaning up' non-VDF member CL ads.

Thanks again Yoda... "Good thinkin' !" lol

If you wanna spearhead this thing, I think you should get in touch with our Owner David (Webmaster) and Tommyp our SuperModerator first.

It's a Private Forum here, privately owned, and whatever the Webmaster/Owner decides is the way we roll on everything here.

I'm preaching to the choir with you John, I know, ....... just didn't want the newer cats to not be aware of the lay of the land in these parts.

I'll give Tommy a heads up to check out this thread. Let's see what Tommy thinks and has to say on it.
