Question about Camco bearing edges Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

A drum shop in my area has an LA Camco kit in stock, 12/13/18/22 with matching snare in piano black lacquer. The 18" floor tom intrigues me of course. Having never owned a Camco set, I'm wondering if the LA-ear bearing edges were the same on the toms as they were on the bass drums. In other words, might this 18" drum be a candidate for a bass drum conversion?

Thanks for the info.

I believe the edges are the same. If the 18" floor tom has 4 legs, it makes it really easy to do a conversion. Pick up a set of gull wing spurs (Gibralter) and use them in two of the floor tom leg brackets. It works perfectly!

Please don't destroy that complete L.A. kit just to convert that 18" floor tom to a bass drum... if you PM me, I can sell you a 18" L.A. Camco floor tom shell.

I also encourage you to keep it together and original. Have you tried 16x18's before? Part of what makes an 18 is the tight compact sound. The extra two inches changes it. But maybe that's what you want? Osahead's shell sounds like a good option.
