Questions regarding my dads Dynasonic Last viewed: 43 minutes ago

Loading...

So all my dad drums have arrived from NY.

This is another of the treasures I've inherited.

I'm a Ludwig guy so not up to speed on the Rogers but I know it's a "4 line" Dynasonic. SN-12140

Anyone know any info on these drums?

or point me in the right direction?

Looking for info on the year & shell make.

and of course I'm going to bring this back to life very soon along with all the other goodies I just got! ;-)

Thanks all!!

Mark, great to know your dad`s drums have become yours, because it sounds like they have been inherited into good hands and you are now the "caretaker" of them. That is a five line Dyna(not a four-no such thing), so i`m dating it to early 70`s,sorry i can`t dial in the exact year and i`ll leave that up to the experts here.Shell make will likely be a COB(chrome over brass). Will be a great project for you and enjoy...

The Rogers serial guide I have lists numbers 11xxx-17xxx for 1968 (Dayton, OH). If the 68 at the end of your name is your birth year then this is an extra-special inheritance! Treasure it! Set up right these are flippin' fantastic snare drums. First off you are going to need a snare frame. Here's a guide:

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/rogers_dynasonic_set_up2.html

Mine is in the 129xxs so probably made a month or so later than your dad's. I was about a month or so (guestimation) from being conceived. My mom was pregnant with me by the time my Rogers Powertone snare was built. Makes them extra special for me.

Enjoy your restoration! Cheers!

Awesome! Thanks FunkyPoodle man! Yes, the 68 is my birth year & THAT is very special so thanks again for that info.

His entire gargantuan set arrived last week & I am in the process of restoring the entire kit as well as the cymbals and other drums.

I also got some 70's Atlas stands, 3 Speed King pedals, and some nice 70's Zilidjian cymbals(a pair of 16"(yes, 16) Zilidjian hats made in Turkey, 3 HUGE 22" rides all & 3 different weights. 1 20" jazz ride minus rivets & a 1964 Supraphonic(in real bad shape).

The kit itself consists of a mix of Ludwig & Slingerland drums. Some of the Slingerlands are actually red ink date stamped 1964 & most have Niles badges. The Ludwigs are all B/O badges from 70/71.

Sizes are 14x28, 14x24, (2) 9x13 toms, 13x15, 16x16 (mounted no legs) 16x18 & 18x20 floor toms.

Attached is a pic.

I've got a lot of work ahead of me. :-)

Enjoy the work, as it will be well worth while-beautiful kit and super sizes too. There`s always a way to get that snare looking like it just came out of the factory.

That's a 5 line Dyna Mark.....we need to hook up sometime when I go to visit the in-laws in San Diego.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Mark,

It's great to see that your dads drums ended up with the right person.

It will be great to see them all cleaned up when you're done.
