When or did Rogers put 4 bass drum legs on their kits in the '60's. Also what kit would have used a swivo with 2 toms and two mounts?

30's Radio King - 26, 13, 13, 16
49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16
58 - Slingerland Duco
58 - Slingerland Krupa Deluxe
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 20, 12, 14
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 22 (need), 13, 16
And some others..

Hi,

Mcjnic,

Could you post a pic of your early Londoner bass?

I have an early Londoner bass with two tom mounts.

Here's a shot "borrowed" from our good friend DrumFarm (which I highly suggest you spend some time with). It shows the red sparkle Dave Clark twin tom setup on the early Londoners. This was used just prior to the single post.

Nice photo!

So the debate carries on... is the xtra tom mount factory installed or owner installed?

Very interesting question. First the 4 bass drum leg thing. I don't know that they ever did use two sets of spurs in their standard hardware configurations - at least in the 60's. However, it was certainly possible to order a bass with an extra set of legs. I have seen a bass or two with an extra set. Hard to tell if they were factory installed or not.

The double tom londoner setup was actually the Top Hat in the earlier catalogues (with the twin mounts). I suspect that it might have become the Londoner when they switched to the one mount for double toms. The Top Hat had the configuration in mcjnic's photo. The interesting thing about that photo is that it is a beavertail kit. By the time beavertails were used, Rogers had been using the single post mount for some time.

Here's what the earlier Top Hat configuration looked like.......

Hey Powertone, who is the drummer in your photo? Am I seeing things or is he using 13,12,16 as Dave Clark did, and he has the swivos on the player's as Dave did as well. No, that's two 12x8s, right?

Nutbox, If that's not 2 x 12"s then the 13 looks to be first in line. There is also a knobby mount on the floor tom top for a cymbal arm in that photo of Freddy Bonita. The top hat outfit was 2x12s with the 16flr tom having that top knobby for the cymbal arm. When those Swivo plates came about the people that used the Rogers drums were Swivo happy as well as the ones that made the drums! Eagle badge era and odd scripts, like the bottom purple bass drum, both have 2 mounts on the players side for cymbal arms, snare arms or tom arms. Standard Swivo happy drums! Peace, Gary

mjcnic,

You'll be very happy to know, I just picked up a Dayton Londoner, single post, 12,13, 20 (the floor tom is missing but the seller has 14" luan model) in red glass glitter or I think's it's "Red Sparkle Pearl" according to the '67 catalogue.

I will have pics in a few days, so we can compare notes further...

BTW here is my WMP 20 Rogers Cleveland Holiday with double tom mounts. Tommyp is certain the 2nd tom mount is not a factory but owner install. Noitice in particular, the different placement of the tom mounts...
