"New" Downbeat Kit Last viewed: 9 hours ago

This took a while but I was finally able to cobble together a Downbeat kit. A while back I posted pics of my original 1971 Ludwig BDP 20/13/16. It’s a fantastic kit but I’ve always thought a 20-incher felt better with the smaller 8x12 and a 14x14 toms. So one by one, I was able to find the exact finish and shell matches and very close vintages – the 14” is 1971 and the 12” is late 1970. Like the original set, these are 3-ply, clear interiors with re-rings. At some point, I guess I could set up a 12/13/14/16/20 kit but I’m really liking the sound of the Downbeat sizes alone or with an extra 16 floor tom. Nice to be able to mix and still match.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thanks guys for all the nice words. While I enjoy playing all my drums, I think I've found my standard go-to kit for most of the music I play. And I'm with tnsquint…the one up, two down is where it's at! Did I mention they sound awesome?
