This may be of interest to those members who play jazz. The gentleman from whom I purchased my Ed Thigpen drumsticks told me that Mr. Thigpen had given them to him in the sixties at his school of music in Toronto. He also stated that Ed "shaved " his sticks to create a "special soft cymbal sound" and "variable tones on the ride".The sticks are acrually quite pointed at the ends as if they were sanded just short of the point of being lethal weapons. Although I am not a heavy-handed drummer,I just don't see myself playing old time rock with these wonderful sticks. I wonder if the jazz musicians out there could offer any insights into this technique. I am very curious to learn more. Yeah, I know the shaving jokes will come sooner than later. Thanks .
