I had contact with the eBAY seller before the auction ended. This was his response:

"It used to be Midnight Blue Pearl, which eventually discolored and became Midnight Liver. I took the kit to the late LA drum maker Paul Bleifuss, who removed the finish and buffed the wood below. I find this natural color and wood grain to be very attractive. I glad you asked and I should have mentioned this on the description. Dang. I'll see if I can edit my entry."

Never play it the same way once.

For what it's worth, Paul Bleifuss did excellent work, which is why this kit looks as good as it does. Time to correct the listings I think.

it has been recently confirmed this was a wrapped kit that was professionally refinished by accredited drum 'doctor' Paul Bleifuss in CA who did an amazing job!

The finish actually looks better than it did on ebay, less dried out.
