5) no stands - that rack tom looks so silly on that modern snare stand

I wonder if it ever even crossed his mind that.. "maybe I shouldn't dump this 40+ year old instrument in the snow..." or, "I wonder what a rapid change in temperature from 70 to 28 will do to this 40 year old wood??"
