How many of you followed along this eBay auction that recently ended?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150736902502

I had emailed the seller and asked for pictures of the inside of the shell, the top and bottom bearing edge especially at the snare beds and of the back side of the grommet holding the badge to the shell. He sent me pix if the top bearing edge, the back of the grommet but not the bottom bearing edge where the snare beds are. Probably too much work? He did say the snare beds where crimped, but no pix.

Did somebody from the forum buy this drum?

What's the take on whether it's a legit Trans badge snare?

It the real deal, you can see the crimped bed, pic # 7. I've never dealt with the seller, but they are a reputable ebay seller.

Someone got a good buy or is that what a drum like this is worth? I was under the impression that the Trans badge snares are worth a lot more money?

That's not the original snare wires, that's for sure. Drop L and G connected would make it 70's.

I'd say that that means very little in this debate. Heads, and snare wires wear out and break, and are easily replaced. It does not necessarily have anything to do with the original date of the drum itself. Did the seller claim they were original to the drum? I didn't read that part, but I did read the part where they admitted that they are 'not experts'. They probably made a few bucks, and somebody presumably got a good deal, so everybody's happy...?

I agree, the chances of coming across a 50 plus year old snare drum with the original heads and wires is pretty slim. I'm certain that everybody was happy with that transaction, as long as the other parts were original to that drum or from a period correct drum.

Hi Mike, got your pm and responded back. Yes, that was a great deal on that snare. I'm just curious about the large wide ugly spacer behind the grommet on that snare which did not look correct?

Mikey,

Yes, I remember when that was a $1000 drum. Evidently, it's now a $430 drum. This economy is driving a buyer's market. I'm watching for deals, but not parting with anything right now like a lot of collectors.

Yes, I agree, just noting it for those who may not have seen it.
