Recently acquired a Slingerland set - need help identifying :-) Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello fellow drummers!

I recently acquired a red gloss (wrapped) 5 piece Slingerland kit. Kit was owned by a gentlemen who collected musical instruments and passed away. His family said he bought this kit used late 70s, maybe early 80s, they could not remember. He did not play them, just looked at them, but he did bought these used they said. I gave them $500 for the kit (what you see on the pic). I have always wanted a Slingerland and patiently waited for something on this range to come up. My plan is to keep these and play them :-)

I am attaching a pic of the set and a pic of one of the badges, but will post more as I clean these up, which are honestly in excellent shape, but just polishing the shells and cleaning the hardware. All hardware appears to be original.

I need help figuring out exact year/model, if possible, just for my own records. From reading/searching this site, I believe these are from 1973-1986. I think these might be the Modern Solo Outfit No.2R, but snare is not chrome, it has the same finish as rest of the kit.

Again, I'll post more pics this weekend.

Thanks again!

Great looking kit and it will sound fantastic too. $500 is a fair price for sure.

Thanks! I just got done "detailing" it. There is almost no rust on any of the hardware. I got all the chrome polished. I'll post more pics in the morning and will share serials to see if my thoughts are correct.

Kit is a 14,12,13,16,22.

Also gonna put new Remo Ambassadors on snare and toms. Now I need to find some vintage hats, 16in crash and 20/22in ride :-)

Serials and hoop inlay suggest '73-early '74 for the bass and toms. Hoop inlay changed to chrome in mid '74. Snare is mid 80's. Pictures of that badge and throw off may be of interest. Super set o matic tom mount may not be original to the set. There is some debate but SSOM generally thought to have been introduced in '75-'76.

Thanks!

Here is a pic of snare badge and throw off. Also, the hardware on the snare, as seen on the pics does show some "petina." Rest of the drums/hardware is pristine.

Also, attached pic of inside of the snare.

Again, appreciate the help in pinpointig year/model.
