red sparkle Ludwig 1966 Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi,

I posted over a year ago about my red sparkle 1966 Ludwig. I finally got some photos that I wanted to post. I'd like to sell the drum and am interested in it's value and any information you may be able to provide. The number on the badge is 401531. The date inside reads Sept. 22 1966. The drum head where the logo is reads Ludwig Weather Master, and reads Orchestra Batter under the logo. There's no rust on this drum, and it appears to me to be in excellent condition. It hasn't been played in over 40 years. Let me know if more info or photos are needed.

Thanks all!

You have a Ludwig Pioneer snare. You could expect $150 to $175 on eBay. I've paid more for mint pioneers. Yours appears to be average condition.

if that were my drum, i wouldnt cut it loose for less than 250. the original heads and snare wires are a big plus to collectors and vintage enthusiasts like myself. thats a beauty!

Mike,

The reason I say $175 is for the past few months that's where the Pioneer market has been. Just picked up a silver in pretty good shape...will be near mint after I clean it. I think it was around $150. I paid $220 for my red last year and it looks like it was built yesterday. I'm with you, I would not sell some of my nice ones for under $220 or so, but I appreciate the lowley pioneer and don't need the cash.

I also think the pioneer values will continue to go up since they are now becoming "collectible" ....finally...

Buy now and hold...

There have been several nice blue drums the past couple months for under $200. There was a mint one for $199 BIN with free shipping. Someone got it before me. I'm looking for a blue with chrome to replace the current one with nickel.

Thanks all. I played this drum in 4th & 5th grade band class in 1968-9. And maybe 10 times since then. It's been in it's cloth carrying case in the attic since then. I think the condition is above average from other drums I've seen on the internet, but I'm no drum guru. The snare and all is original. There is a spot on one side that seems like residue from a sticker, but am worried about trying to remove it in case I would damage the finish. Also there are hand-written initials in cursive in what looks like pencil near the date, but not sure if I can read them correctly. They look like maybe R. C. (maybe A. C.) to me. I've posted a not so good photo. Is that the maker's initials? Were all drums signed? Was this a "school" drum?

Thanks.

I saw that, I just couldn't pull the trigger! I got a 6 1/2" purple and gold off dfo instead, but if I could find a blue sparkle 6 1/2" Pioneer, !!!!!!
