Removing a 1960's 3-nail Rogers badge. HELP! Last viewed: 7 hours ago
I just very carefully pried them up from behind with a thin blade screw driver. Probably not the best method, but I got them off without damaging the shells or the badges. You have to go back and forth and try to pry the nails out/raise them up, evenly. If you work one side too much, you can bend, or otherwise damage the badge.
Patience, take your time. After you get the badge up a little bit, you can slip a piece of paper, or card stock under there so the screw driver doesn't come into direct contact with the wrap. Jiggle the screw-driver from side to side, walk it in under the badge right by each nail. Gentle pressure side to side will work. It's do-able.

Just pry them off If they Brake Just buy new ones at local hardware. Take off from The rear of drum not from front you can damage badge
I have found that taking a small paring knife, and putting it under the badge, and lifting CAREFULLY/SLOWLY on starting say, the left side, then the right side that they will come up pretty easily......
Have taken many off that way....the tacks get bent, but can't think of any other way...
Thanks for all the feedback!
With mine, I took the heads off, then used a pair of pliers to grasp each nail from inside the drum. Grasp the nail close to the shell (keeps nail from possibly bending) and push slowly and firmly toward the shell to push the nail out from shell. Make sure each time you regrasp the nail, you do so close to the shell. I was able to get mine out without bending the nails or putting any pressure on the badge that might possible alter its shape or break it.

Wow, so many different methods to accomplish the same task. I've removed a lot of Rogers badges, but I only work from inside the shell. I pry the bent pin/tack up with a tiny screwdriver, straighten the pin with needle-nose pliers, lock small visegrip pliers onto the shaft of the pin, then tap onto the visegrips with a hard plastic-headed hammer until the pins push through the shell and can be easily pulled out with the needlenose from the other side. No contact ever with the badge or wrap, and the pins are straight and reusable.
I have found the same gauge pins at Lowes and Home Depot, but they all have flat heads, so I believe in salvaging the original, round-headed Rogers pins whenever possible. How obsessive have we become when such an almost unobservable detail makes such a big difference to us?
Yeah...you can go inside the shell with needle nose pliers..and go about it that way......but they are hard to pry up the brads from the shell...and it leaves marks on the inside of the shell....
Most of the drums I have taken them off of have been pretty roached out .....so no biggy if it mars up the shell a bit...BUT...I have never really noticed any marring going about it with a paring knife.....
Man I'd just use a big ol pry bar. LoLoLoLo Rip that biotch right off pronto!!
Just kidding!! :)
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
