Hi All,

Before the vintage crew start to growl at me, the drum in question is a modern renown maple snare drum........

I have a white laquer finish 14x6.5 Gretsch renown snare drum. I want remove the white finish and take it back to a natural maple finish. The question is, how do i remove the gromet holding the badge on, without damaging the interior of the shell, or the badge itself???

Thanks

Bigz

There is a gromet removal tool you can buy:

What I did with a 49 Gretsch Parade drum was push a round file into the gromet.....slowly pushing - with force - wiggling it a little and it came out. There was no damaga at all (I covered the file with a soft cloth so not to scar the gromet). I was able to put it back together no problem and you can't tell it had been removed.
