Replacing throw off on old Radio King Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

I bought an old Radio King 7x14, which was rewrap. It's a great looking drum with the one ply shell. The problem is the snare throw off is almost useless.

I'm considering selling it or even replacing the throw off. Have any of you replaced parts like this on old drums? I hate messing with original stuff, but in order to make it a player's snare, it may be necessary. Since this is a rewrap, I'd feel better about it making the update since the drum is not 100% original anyways.

Which throw off is it? There are repros of the 3 point in either steel or brass, not sure about the other throws.

Definitely do not drill any new holes!

Yeah, I know drilling is a no no. I'm going to sell it. I have a bunch of other snares anyways. I'd rather not mess with it.

How much are the repros and who has them?

Thanks

To my knowledge, there are two repros available for the 3 point throw: the inexpensive (but great) chrome one from drumsandsome.com or the high zoot legit brass one from AK Drums. I don't know of any others.

That one from drumsandsome doesn't match the mounting pattern for a Slingerland 3-point.

Don't know about the AK version.... can't find the specs on the website.

And I'd hope they have the original mount spacing too. AK has a neat-o site and cool they repop some stuff also.
