Restore or not restore Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I would only restore if I were to keep it otherwise I would not. To restore and sell remember people out there do not want to pay for restorations at it's value. You can restore to new condition and they see it as used and want to give you peanuts. They never count the work that you may put in to the drum.

Thanks for the info and will continue to restore. The badge read top to bottom, WFL, DRUM CO. Chicago address. It is probably 1940's according to the badge info sent in this thread.

Can't tell what kind of wood this is but will continue to peel back the layers. Will remove the rest of the leg supports and plywood used to make this a table. Any ideas on what kind of skin to use? I wondered if any old skins are available. This is turning into a great project and am grateful for all of the enthusiasts helping along the way. More pics of the progress.

If it were mine I would not do a thing about it, except for the most necessary things for a good sound (like sanding a bearing edge or something). Why? Because I likeit as it is, old, a bit abused, dark, etc.

I'd stack it somewhere and wait till I found a tomtom and a floor tom (or two) that have the same about them, being beat up, mis-uesed, painted over in bad way, etc. Then I would make a kit with them an paly the &@*(% out of it.

A bit like the kit fred young used. Old and ragged. But (unvisible) in a technically good state, so it can sound good.

But I'm not a purist.
