Rewrap vs. Leaving It Alone Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I`ve got a 1967- 9x13 Rogers Cleveland tom in Pink Champagne that has a wrap split almost half way around the drum-no peeling, lifting or wrap drop outs, just the split.New wrap is about $165.00 for this size in this colour-yes pricey and then i`d have to do the change myself, which i wouldn`t want to undertake, thus further cost in labour for a pro job-$ ? I think this tom in good shape is about $250.00 on today`s market-just can`t see the change of wrap being cost effective and then there`s the colour match problem...should i just leave it alone? Some of you guys out there must be in a similar situation-please chime in with your thoughts and thanks for your time.

i'd leave that one be. keep your eye out for another maybe if it bothers you. I wouldn't rewrap it though..just my opinion.

I agree with Mike, leave it be.

Hmm..this is a tough one. That split wrap would really bother me.

Is it possible for you to glue the split down to minimize it?

Let's see some pics.

Personally I don't mind a few cracks and dings in stuff.

Especially if it's "vintage". :D

Pics would be good. Crack repair ideas would be good also...

It would be hard to offer suggestions without seeing some pictures of the Tom in question and the kit to which it is paired. Re-wrapping the drum will probably not make fiscal sense but that is not why most people re-wrap drums.

I would base my decision on how the split affects the look of the entire kit from 5' away. If the kit still looks good leave it as is and play it out on gigs. Old kits look better if they have a little character.
