[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl3ZxN4L8zg"]Julien’s Auctions: The Collection of Ringo Starr & Barbara Bach: Ludwig Drum Kit - YouTube[/ame]

Highlights from this historic auction include seven of Starr’s stage and studio used drum kits: Starr’s first Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl drum kit used to record some of The Beatles biggest early hits and used by Paul McCartney on his album McCartney; the custom built Jumbo Silver Sparkle kit used in the “Hello, Goodbye” film from 1967; the Ludwig Silver Sparkle kit used on Starr’s inaugural Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band tour

Never play it the same way once.

I'm only interested in the one that has extra holes from adding a Swivomatic tom holder. Not only is it a superior piece of hardware, but the extra holes will suppress the interest of most collectors and therefore keep the price in the range of $1000 or so.

Dan-i like your thinking here as i was thinking the same thing.I wonder which Ringo kit had the swivomatic tom mount and from what year or years did he use that swivomatic hardware on the bass drum.Interesting point on the price but i`m thinking much bigger bucks either way. We`ll see when the dust settles-are you bidding?

Funny Post I think it was his second OBP set which had the swivo tom mount. I'd love to get that set for $1000, but I'd have to rip out that original, shakey swivo mount, then redrill the bass and tom to install the more sturdier Memriloc mount. :p

If we're starting a pool, I'm predicting the OBP set being auctioned will sell for $3.5 mil. to either a British rock star, a Japanese businessman, or the Hard Rock Café.

I probably won't be bidding Wayne.

Mike has a point with the Memri-loc. In fact, Mal Evans, surely would have gone for the newer model tom mount if it had been available. However, Hard Rock only uses half a bass drum, so I don't see that happening.

Only his first downbeat set is up for auction. It's the one that was unmodified.

The second downbeat with the Rogers swiomatic (the Sullivan kit) is not up for auction. I saw this kit in the flesh at the Grammy Museum in L.A.

The two super classic kits were both modified with Rogers swiomatic mounts and one of them was modified with two mounts so they could mount a 12" tom from the Sullivan kit too.(12/13/16/22)

An unused 5x14 jazz fest is also up for auction.( this snare came with the Sullivan kit) This is NOT the 5.5x14 Ringo used on nearly all the Beatles recordings, although Paul used it on his first solo album.

Check our ringosbeatlekits Gary Astridge knows all of this stuff.

I'm wondering why the ludwig company wouldn't want such a piece. If I was ludwig, it would come back to the company..

I expect they would, but I doubt they will have the money to keep up in the auction. We are talking Beatles here and we will be seeing silly money going down on this gear. You never know they might just snatch it.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
