Although not a major influence on me, I do appreciate Dennis' drumming.

I do want to clarify that I am a big Beach Boys fan.

Why sure! Actually, say what you want about Keith Moon, but he certainly opened the door for drummers to be more than just a backup player in rock and roll in the same way that guys like Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich brought drums to the fore in jazz settings. Any kid playing speed metal or progressive rock needs to tip their hat to Keith Moon.

For the record, Tony Williams was a Keith Moon fan. :)

Great thread guys. Sorry if this is a bit off the current topic, but has anyone seen the exhibit yet? I'm waiting ever so patiently to hear details on Ringo's kit. All I've ever seen is speculation, theories and interpretation from old photos. Has anyone seen it up close and personal yet? Sorry if I missed it, but if I did, please point me in the right direction Group Hug

...And my contribution to the thread, I raise my hand for Ringo every time. I agree with the fact that he may not have been the most technically gifted drummer, but he definitely was a pioneer no matter how you slice it. Go ahead and disagree if you must, we're all entitled to our opinions, but that's how I see it.

Regarding Ringo's legendary Jazz Festival snare drum, Gary Astridge has provided this info on the DFO site:

Shell size: 5.5"x14"

Stamp Date: APR 18 1963 (Black ink)

The debate as to whether the snare drum having a 5" or 5.5 depth has now been put to rest!

Hell yeah keith moon loved the beach boys as does anyone with taste and an ear for exquisite perfect music. Not a single group in history that ever had such a brilliant composer like brian.

And if the beatles didnt have george martin, they wouldnt have had the hyped up success they had. Production is everything and martin was their bread&butter.
