You're right, Drumjinx, it is "sad news". He was far too young. The Monkees gave a lot of kids a lot of innocent fun back in the day. I hope that The Righteous Brothers were right. "If there's a rock'n'roll heaven..." Rest in peace, Davy.

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.

Makes me feel like another part of my youth has been stripped away. Man I loved watching that show. Senseless fun. RIP Davie Jones.

And far more talented than I think some people give him credit for. He performed a very polished "Oliver" on the Ed Sullivan Show the very same night The Beatles made their debut. He got to tour with Hendrix...and oh of course! Had Marsha Brady falling all over herself to be with him for a few precious moments.

Ditto all that's been said.

Yes, the Monkees were a "creation" for entertainment purposes. But, when they hit the TV set, I was at an age where that didn't matter to me -- and honestly they had as much (if not more) to do with the direction my life took (being a musician) than did the Beatles, as I was a little too young for that type of influence when they hit the Ed Sullivan show, what, 2-3 years before?

But, a sad reminder to all of us that we all have a number that will come up sooner or later. It's up to us now whether-or-not we'll each be ready...

You know that "creation" holds true for today's music industry more than ever!

... and may I just add...

I still have ALL my ORIGINAL Monkee's albums.. ( vinyl ) .. ALL of 'em!! I was at that age then too... big influence! I remember playing to the recording of "Mary Mary" as it had a great drum beat to it... I practiced with that for hours! The Monkee's were IT for any of us at that age... and I suspect a lot of us WERE at that age too!

66 is just too young... makes one really take note of one's own mortality. You just don't know!

The only LP I don't have is the soundtrack to "Head." I'm really not sure how I missed that one.

Now, here I am, off-topic again... but PLEASE somebody help me!

What was on the flip side of the 45 that had "A Little Bit of You and A Little Bit of Me?" They were recorded between the first and second albums, but didn't make it on an album (until "A Little Bit..." made it on their greatest hits album). I had the 45, but lost it years ago...
