I just learned of the death today of a true rock and roll icon: Paul Revere. It is a sad day for the music community.

When I was in college in the early 90's I played in an oldies cover band that did a lot of Paul Revere and the Raiders. At the time I wasn't into that kind of music but played in whatever bands I could make money in (ie. starving student). I didn't appreciate it but all these years later those songs are still stuck in my head and probably always will be. Good song writing for sure! I have really fond memories of that time now.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
So true. It's easy to forget how much talent there was out there at the time in the 1960s and early 1970s. The Beatles overshadowed them all, but Paul and the Raiders were an excellent band with some great songs.
It's a shame that kids today only know of the Beatles, Stones, Led Zep but not much of these other great groups like Raiders, Rascals, Lovin Spoonful, etc. Their songwriting was at times as good at the Beatles.
Saw them at Disneyland doing a regular evening gig at the Tomorrowland Cafe in 75. They popped up from an underground carousel! That's when coupon booklets were issued where you still had a chance of short lines..unlike today where you can probably book a place in line with a smartphone app :(
I watched them on saturday mornings after Bandstand. They were so cool in the eyes of a 10 yr old. The uniforms, VOX guitars, amps and keyboards, did they have VOX drums also?
