RK snare date please? Last viewed: 40 minutes ago

Hi. I wonder if any of you might be able to give an approximate date of my RK snare I think it's around 1939 but could be wrong. I've looked at the vintage drum site and it seems that the inward facing snare flange puts it '28-'34. I think that the badge is '37-'43. I'm thinking of selling it and want to get the year right. Thanks.

1920s 14"x5" Ludwig Super Sensitive Dual Snare
1957 6 1/2" x15" Slingerland WMP Concert King
1938 8"x15" Leedy Broadway Standard
1947-53 14x6.5" NOB Ludwig & Ludwig Universal
...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.

Real hard to put exact dates on Slingerland snares. Badge determines what you can say for sure. Could be an earlier shell build with later badge. Hope the sale goes well

Thanks a lot. Haven't fully decided whether to sell it but good to know that the year is about right.

Based on the screwed on wider "gates" on the bottom hoop, the drum is pre-war or made just after WWII started. 1940-42 or so. A bit unusual to see one with no extension brackets but that could be indicative of a few different things: The drum was originally a Student Model with a three ply shell and the hoops were changed at a later date; It could be the result of WWII shortages and the brackets were not installed; The drum was custom ordered with no brackets. If you remove the head to see what the shell is, that would help narrow it down.

Tension rods are not original.

Thanks for the very useful information Mark. The shell is single ply.
