RLS Initials on Rogers Labels Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I have a Mid-60's Rogers Luxor snare that has handwriting on the inside label. It's right above the Model Type and I thought it was 12 65 for the date. But I just saw another label with the same writing. Now it looks like it might read R L S.

Does anyone know if this could be the initials of a drum assembler or QC inspector?

Those are my initials! But, I wasn't born then. Those are also my dad's initials, but he would have been in late grade school/junior high in the mid 60s.

Being serious now, maybe it means Rogers Luxor Snare. Just a guess. It very well could be the assembler or QCs initials, though. I'm curious myself.

Please forgive my kidding. I hope someone can answer your question definitively.

Good point on it meaning Rogers Luxor Snare, but the most recent label I saw with RLS was a Holiday label.

Oops! Sorry I have your snare. I'm glad you came forward and I can ship it back to you, if you'd like. ;)

I'll PM you with my address shortly. I've been missing that drum since before I was born. :p

Well, that shoots that idea down. My best guess would be that it's QC related, but I'm really just guessing.

Post a few pics, if you can. Maybe that will shed a little light on it.

Take care!

Whomever assembled the drum usually put their initials inside. Not all the crew did this, however.

Looks like the same person signed both those labels, so it's definitely an assembler's sign-off...

The only person who worked at Rogers during this era with the initials RS besides one secretary was a man by the name of Richard Studebaker and he did work as an assembler .

I'm looking through The Rogers Book by Rob Cook and page 30 through 33 lists the Rogers Personnel, Covington Era.

Below are the people listed as "Assembly":
P.A. - Pearl Adams

J.B. - Joyce Bashore - was Supervisor (Covington/Dayton/Fullerton), but also assembled drums based on a picture in the book

H.B. - Helen Beireis

J.B. - Jeannie Black

J.B. - Jeannie Buckingham

B.C. - Bobby Jr. Collins

M.D. - Mary Kay Davis

M.D. - Mary Diltz

R.F. - Roberta Fricke

J.H. - John Harmon - original employee

B.H. - Billie Hartley - Lug Assembly

E.H. - Edna Houck - Lug Assembly 1963 to 1969

R.J. - Ralph Johnson, Sr. - Lug Assembly

F.K. - Forrest Kimmel

R.L. - Roberta Leopard

L.M. - Luellen Minnich

D.P. - Dorothy Platt

D.R. - Darla Rantz

H.R. - Helen Ross

S or O.S. - Ophie Shields (per book), but Rogers Owners Forum post says "S" stands for Sophie Shields)

R.L.S. - Richard Studebaker

K.T. - Kay Trostle

O.W. - Othal Wagner - Lug Assembly

F or F.W. - Frank Walters - Lug Assembly
I'm sure there are more names, but hopefully this list might help shed some light on other initials that appear in Rogers labels.

I know one thing, I wouldn't want to assemble lugs for 8 hours. I'd lose my mind. :)

Thanks, Rob Cook, for including this information in your book.
