Roc-N-Soc Counterfeits? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

I asked for a nice throne for my birthday, and sent my wife a couple Roc-N-Soc links, including one on ebay that the price is nearly 50.00 off of retail.

She told me she went to the local music store and the salesperson told her that the ebay ones were probably fake and if I wanted a any color other than black she would have to wait for 3 or 4 months for the order to be filled because they are being made by one guy in his house.

The story seems a little ridiculous to me but I figure I would ask here because it's the only drum site I frequent and there seems to be a closer knit group of old hands in the know.

If I get a discounted ebay throne is it gonna be counterfeit? Is the Salesperson / asst Manager at the local music store full of BS.

It's hard to imagine that anyone would bother faking drum thrones, or that they could continue to list them without Roc'n'Soc taking action. Chances are, the seller is a music store with an ebay presence, which is very common.

And as far as the salesperson, it sounds like they're just trying to make a sale. When they are afraid to compete, they'll say anything, and warning a customer that a lower-priced product "may be a fake" is a common scare tactic. That happens a more in fashion than in the MI world.

Sounds like the music store guy is trying to jerk your girlfriend around to make a sale. "Buy this one for more $ because it's the 'real thing' and we have them right here in fifty colors!" BS.

Go for the ebay discount/bargain. Buy something for the girlfriend with the money you save.

Too many great drums to list here!

Does the cheaper RocnSoc have the nice heavy duty base? I've seen Pork Pie thrones sold cheaply with a more wobbly base than what is sold by my preferred store.

Thats a good tip about the base being an el cheapo....

We'll have to see, I'll make sure I report back. My butt and lower back can't wait for a comfy saddle

I just recently acquired a used Roc-N-Soc throne in good condition which was part of a hardware group. Not sure if it's an original version - if anyone can post a photo here for reference I'd like to know. Overall I'm impressed with it - appears to utilize Tama parts from their Titan Throne period with a different bottom tripod. If anyone has an interest in it let me know.

The original (first ones made) turntable was made of aluminum. They wore out real fast. New ones are made of steel. Mine was shot (sloppy, rocked like a rocking chair) I ordered a replacement (steel)from Roc-N-Soc, and replace it myself.

Old one had three mounting screws. New one has four. So you have to take off the fabric to get to the T nuts and redrill for the new one.
