Those are nice Gary. Great deal too I bet he's a very happy guy. You'll both have some fun times for sure!

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

I'm on the fence now, I may give my son my white sling set and use these to gig with, I like the tom mounts and the 22" bass, much easier to pack and set up. what do you think? are these a good set to gig with, what type of shells are those anyway? its not wood

You are right. Judging from your 2 pictures, they look clean as a whistle.
If you like the sound, I see no reason why you couldn't gig this set.
Congrats on a good buy!

I can't pass up saying something nice about USA made Rockers...
Great drums, and they are still a steal, as you've found out. If the Slingerland kit is going to reside at the house, I wouldn't hesitate to gig those Rockers. I've got a couple kits. I've spooged together one from orphans, and the other came complete.
I gave another, third kit (with power toms - ugh) to my grandson while he learns to play.
Nice find, at a great price. Congrats!
As per the link thornbeck posted, the shells are wood. Here's the link again, it's a good one!

Slingerland,
Your kit is just like mine. The wrap is Frost White and has a pearl look under certain light and angles. Yours have the Standard lugs and mine came with Classic lugs. They should be 4-ply wood for the toms and 6-ply wood for the bass drum. They have the brown/white spackle Lud-e-coat sprayed on the inside.
Here is the thread I started when I first bought the drums: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=37702
I put Evans EC1's on tops and Evans EC Resonant's on the bottoms. The heads cost more than the drums. :)
If you open up the shells, there should/could be a faint date stamp on the insides. If not, the serial numbers might be able to get a close date. I have a stamp in a couple of my shells.
Get some new Ambassadors all around and have fun. They're nothing special, but they're still USA made Ludwig drums that sound very good. My son uses this kit daily and has even gigged with them.
