Rogers and Ludwig Shell Weights Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

As I continue to refurbish and rebuild many of my vintage snare drums, I've taken the time to go a step further and catalog the weight of some of the shells. Those of you that get involved with the minutia of all this may appreciate this info...

All shells are weighed on a Pitney Bowes electronic scale calibrated to 70 pounds.

Rogers SuperTen 5x14 COS (bare shell) 3 pounds, 6.5 ounces

Rogers Powertone 5x14 COB (bare shell) 2 pounds, 13.5 ounces

Ludwig Super Sensitive 5x14 Ludalloy (bare shell) 1 pound 14.5 ounces

Even with the extra holes for the SS mechanism, I'm sure that a Ludalloy Supra would pretty much weigh about the same.

Hope you find this information helpful!

You're my kind of nerd, dude! Yes Sir

Thanks for posting these. I recently bought a Powertone that was listed as weighing 10 lbs. which seemed like a lot to me. So it is handy/useful to have an idea about shell weights because it can be revealing of the shells composition.

Only drum nerds like us (or someone with OCD,) would even care...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hey John! Thanks for the kind words! Yep, I don't mind be called a "drum nerd". And, yes... I probably have OCD when it comes to all this. But... I love my drums and the fun and "therapy" it gives me to work on these great vintage drums and then get to play them. Come on, you all know what I mean!! LoLoLoLo
