Rogers Bass Drum Anchor? Last viewed: 42 minutes ago

Loading...

I'm trying to determine whether the Rogers Drum Company made its own bass drum anchors for its kits. The anchor in the pics that I've attached came with a Cleveland-era kit that I purchased years ago and recently sold. I might end up selling the anchor and am simply trying to find out if it was original to the kit so that I don't misrepresent anything. I noticed that the configuration of the rubber tips on the anchor appear to be identical to the rubber feet that were on the floor tom legs of my kit. For whatever reason, I can't seem to find any pics of Rogers' bass drum anchors in the catalogues that I've got. Any "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time and your help!

That looks like the W&A anchor to me. They were common on many of the older kits and used by several of the major drum companies. Great anchors too!

Thanks so much for your help, Mike! I notice that the Rogers catalog doesn't state whether the anchor is a Rogers or a W&A brand.

It does not. The 62 Ludwig shows the same model and also doesn't mention the brand. Ludwig did come with their own by the 67 catalog. W&A made a lot of the parts for the drum companies in those days.

Both my Rogers kits have the same anchor. I still use them to this day and always understood them to be a W&A product. The similar Ludwig anchor is very good too. They are less necessary with modern kits because the the development of the swing out style spurs that angle forward. But you'll notice old video footage of guys struggling to hold the bass in place, and I recall having that trouble in the early days before I had an anchor.

Notice in particular films of Joe Morello playing Take 5 and yanking his bass drum back as he continues to play on the snare.

Great memories Dan Boucher-i remember having the bass player put his foot in front of my bass drum to stop the creep.Seems that bass players in those days were the only one`s who noticed- part of the cookin` section i suppose... And of course we hadn`t thought of gig rugs on those smooth and slippery highschool stages which were the worst. And when the caretaker noticed the scrape marks on the floor the next morning and reported it to the principle,well...we were in BIG trouble!!!

Sorry, didn`t mean to go off topic about the bass spurs here, but this just brought back those good ol` memories...early-mid 60`s coming to mind here.
