Rogers Bass Drum Question Last viewed: 13 minutes ago

Hi

I'm new to this form, this is my first post.

I have a mid 60's kit, the 20" Bass is a Cleveland late 66, 13" Tom 16" Floor Tom are both early 67 Dayton, from what The tags say.

The lugs on the Bass are not the bow-tie style rather the top-hat style, I checked the net and every 66 Bass I've seen has the bow-tie style, I've seen a number of 67 with the top-hat style. Has anyone seen or own a 66 Bass with the top-hat style lugs that's original ?

Thank

Are you talking about the BD lugs, or the tension rods?

That would be the T rods I am thinking. Faucet handles Cleveland, early Dayton, gray interiors. R Center Later Dayton. This one stayed to the end. I am thinking yours were changed out. Pics would help. These would not be referred to as top-hat.

Thanks Ploughman,

It's the T-Rods I'm talking about. I've seen the ones I have on 1967 and later kit's but yet to see them on a 1966. I've only seen the bow-tie/faucet style on 1966. I have however seen the bow-tie/ faucet style on 1967 bass drums.

Was curious if anyone had seen the later style on a 1966 bass as original hardware ?

Sorry about the name confusion, it what I've seen them called on eBay ??

People acquire drums in all stages of meltdown. Some people, who have an almost psychotic obsession with drum part period correctness, will not replace a tension rod with anything temporarily, but will sit the drum on the shelf along with a list of its necessaries in order to be put right. Others, don't really seem to be bothered by any or all parts being replaced by anything that might fit the holes, or if they don't fit, use a Hole Hawg. Drums show up all the time and are listed as "original" with parts that span 25 years on the same drum. I would say, the parts you have that were made in 68 did not originally come on a drum from 66.

Thanks

It doesn't bother me, more curiosity then anything. I'm very please and proud to own such a great kit. As a kid I could never afford a set of Rogers, mine were a miss match set of Stewart's, with a marching band Ludwig bass as a second bass, I did own a Roger snare which my cousin ended up with.

Thanks for answering my post much appreciated

Thanks Wayne

Mine are Champagne also.

I'm in need of a few more pieces, swizomatic swan leg cymbal & snare stand, to compliment my kit.

I've really enjoyed researching the Rogers Drum history, although somewhat confusing at times.

If someone has a 67/68 Rogers catalog handy, I seem to recall they named that new rod with a technical/foundry type term - maybe cold drawn head or something of that nature. But I've mostly heard folks distinguish the bow tie ones from all the later rods rather than naming the later rods per se.

Welcome aboard whorwood. Share some pic's of your set on this thread!

67-68 Catalog, page 22

Quote: You'll find an amazing new tension rod on every Rogers Drum (Bass pictured), it's designed with cold head construction so the handle and rod can't separate. etc.

There is no actual name given, I added (Bass pictured)

The ones on my kit have an R in the centre, anyone if this was started in 67 or later ?
