I'm looking at a rogers snare for sale in town and it's a Rogers "Luxor"? does that mean a cheaper model? I've looked them up on ebay and they're going for around 215 while other rogers snares are going for 3-500... It's in Black Diamond Pearl everything is original besides top lugs. He said he'd take 200 is that bad?

I have a Luxor and it's a great sounding snare. Terrific for that 'big band' ringy rim shot tone!
It is only a six-lug snare, and originally had the fragile "bread & butter" lugs which were/are stamped brass sheet, so they rip apart when you apply tension. Some of mine have blown out, but I like the tone so I'm putting newer Rogers lugs on it to keep it kicking for a few more decades...
It is not a "cheap" snare; however with only six lugs it is limited in the tensions you can run on it. Shell quality is first rate. If you are looking for a 'gigging' player, I'd look elsewhere unless you want to modify it with more solid, stable lugs. Of course that can destroy the 'collector' value, if that is important to you...

I'm looking for a player snare, The man who has it said he replaced the top lugs. Does the 6 lugs make it harder to tune up or down? i've never played on one. and would $200 be too much for it?
Also is it kind of like Rogers verson of Ludwig Club Date? same shells just cheaper manufacturing time?

This doesn't make sense to me because the lugs are in the center and the top and bottom head counter hoop tension screws thread into them...
No, but it requires more tension per screw to get the same average head tension- this also does not help the problem with the fragility of the lug casings... The hoops should be tall- if you have later shorter hoops with only six lugs tuning could be a problem. In general, this is not a drum you want to crank up anyway- get a newer drum with at least eight or better ten lugs if you want to crank it up.
Price depends on demand and condition. If it is round and in good overall condition cosmetically as well as mechanically, and has the correct parts and no extra holes I'd say it's worth $200.00. That being said, if you want to change the lugs and possibly other mods to make it more of a player to suit your taste, you may be better off finding a less nice example for less cash and making it 'your' drum.
In fact, I strongly suggest an acrolite snare as a great all-purpose snare. I love the Luxor, but it is somewhat of a niche snare, and not something you can get away with tuning all over the place at a moments notice to suit a different musical mood.

Maybe, these are great shells (same as the PowerTone model) but drilled for six lugs rather than eight. Thin shells with re-rings.
Post up some pictures if you can. We can better judge price point that way as well...
